The vast majority of changes to airspace in the UK have to follow the processes detailed in the CAA’s CAP1616 The Process for Changing the Notified Airspace Design. There are many pages of the CAA website dedicated to providing information about who has to do what, where, when, why, and how. Unfortunately the one thing that has been missing since the CAP1616 process was launched in 2017 has been a map of the UK showing where the various Airspace Change Proposals (ACPs) are likely to have an impact.

Additionally the CAA’s CAP1616 ACP web-portal has been less than user-friendly, and although the CAA appointed staff in late 2023 to address this a graphic interface will still be missing. To help make GA more effective in its interactions with the ACPs the GAA established an in-house ACP database and as of late 2023 also charts those active ACPs that do, or might, impact upon GA activities.

The provision of this charting facility is very much resource limited so please bear that in mind. If you have any thoughts\comments\suggestions\etc then please email your GAA Member Association with the title of “GAA ACP Charting”.
